What does this author get out of writing this hateful propaganda? He may not like DT but hate is a very unattractive quality. Where is the truth?

I loved this little book! It is typical of the imaginative mind of AMcS, my favorite author. I listened to the audio book twice and enjoyed every minute.

This is a definite step up from the latest few JG's novels. I really liked it and could not wait to get back to it. It is reminiscent of his early books and I hope there are more with this same main character.

I really liked this book. The story of The Reverend was a true story of the Old Soth. I liked the trial and also am always fascinated with the bios of HL and Capote. My only criticism is, as mentioned previously,TMI about insurance policies and other trivial info about courts and over detailing about HL's later life. But I found I could not wait to get back to it.I really liked this book. The story of The Reverend was a true story of the Old Soth. I love this movie even though there were no redeeming characters maybe because it was based on true events. There is something of an amazing quality of wanting to root for these reprobates. The acting and script were very well done. Well worth your time watching.I love this movie even though there were no redeeming characters maybe because it was based on true events. JG really hit bottom with this one. It was a struggle to finish it. It was incredibly boring. I just plowed through it to find out the reason for the killing. In his recent books, JG is obsessed with presenting his political views. Not only does he insist on bringing up racism in the South in the 40s (We all know it existed) but he emphasizes his anti death penalty views by describing in gruesome detail the bodily reactions to being electrocuted. This will probably be my last JG novel.JG really hit bottom with this one. It was a struggle to finish it. It was incredibly boring. I just plowed through it to find out the reason for the killing. This is a very insightful account of Fr. Martin's spiritual journey throughout the Holy Land. He follows events in the New Testament as he travels through places, such as Bethlehem, Nazareth, Jerusalem, etc., very commonly known to Christians. He describes the places historically and archaeologically as well as their significance in the life of Jesus. Very interesting. This is a very insightful account of Fr. This is a wonderful riveting biography of a gifted writer who was also a troubled human being. His life seemed to present one moral dilemma after another. After having just watched THE QUIET AMERICAN I wanted to see how much of the story was taken from Greene's life. The moral dilemmas the characters face in his writing are reflections of his own life. This is a wonderful riveting biography of a gifted writer who was also a troubled human being. I really liked this book. The author is incredibly creative at inventing a puzzle and fitting all of the pieces together in a satisfying way This was read very well and was hard to stop listening to; there was so much mystery to it. Some commenters have said it is "dark". True in spots, but all of the subjects, suicide, secret and dysfunctional adoption, mass murder, abusive family, etc. are things we see and hear about somewhat commonly. The author has managed to put them all together in one place. Each character experiences an overwhelming amount of stress to deal with and that is the darkness of the story.I really liked this book. I listened to the audiobook and thought it was quite an interesting account of actual historical events and people. I must say that, in spite of their power, wealth and celebrity and their ability to spend a month in Europe then fly to NY for a party before jetting back to CA, their lives were remarkable empty.I listened to the audiobook and thought it was quite an interesting account of actual historical events and people. I thought this was just a fun diversion, an oasis in the heavy, serious news that we encounter every day. Of course, O'Reilly is a conservative and Fairstein is a liberal but they both represent what they call "Old School" values such as being on time, working for a goal, using one talents to do good work, etc. The method is mainly to observe and report the contrast between the values they (and we) grew up with and the values seen in pop culture. I would say, it is worth reading. If you find items that you disagree with, just disregard and continue to the next paragraph.I thought this was just a fun diversion, an oasis in the heavy, serious news that we encounter every day. Although B MacD was not particularly likable as a character, she can be excused because she was just plain unhappy. She was miserable, but, like women of her generation, she had been indoctrinated to think that her husband's likes and dislikes, wishes and dreams were all that mattered. I would say that the suppression of women is the theme that screams out loud and clear. There was not one empowered woman anywhere, although we see the beginnings of this realization at the end.
This was a best seller for 2 yrs in the mid 1940s. Women were starting to identify the dissatisfaction with the role that was relegated to them but did not dare express themselves.brigpa1 Feb 15, 2017
