"Six years after the fight that ended their friendship, Daphne Berg is shocked when Drue Cavanaugh walks back into her life, looking as lovely and successful as ever, with a massive favor to ask. Daphne hasn't spoken one word to Drue in all this time--she doesn't even hate-follow her ex-best friend on social media--so when Drue asks if she will be her maid-of-honor at the society wedding of the summer, Daphne is rightfully speechless. Drue was always the one who had everything--except the ability to hold onto friends. Meanwhile, Daphne's no longer the same self-effacing sidekick she was back in high school. She's built a life that she loves, including a growing career as a plus-size Instagram influencer. Letting glamorous, seductive Drue back into her life is risky, but it comes with an invitation to spend a weekend in a waterfront Cape Cod mansion. When Drue begs and pleads and dangles the prospect of cute single guys, Daphne finds herself powerless as ever to resist her friend's siren song. A sparkling novel about the complexities of female relationships, the pitfalls of living out loud and online, and the resilience of the human heart, Big Summer is a witty, moving story about family, friendship, and figuring out what matters most."--Amazon.com

This was a fun read with very positive messaging about body image!

The "Big" in the title, "Big Summer" was a pun and I love puns. That's where I stopped loving the book. For one thing I have to confess I'm don't have a big social media presence and didn't even know what an influencer was. So, I did enjoy the learning experience. However, the plot was totally unrealistic. It does consist lots and lots of twists and turns so if you like a lot of action well this one is for you. But, like I said it was rather improbable. The ending was good and also the book offered some good values for youngsters to live up to.

I wasn't prepared for the plot twist and it dampened my enthusiasm for what I thought was a beachy read.

Great beach read, and although plot points strain credulity at times, it is absorbing and hard to put down.

Easy summer read (or easy summer listening since that's what I did).

A good fast read. Enjoyed this one. Jennifer Weiner is always a good bet for entertainment!

time to part ways with jennifer weiner. on one hand she talks about the difficulty of being heavyset, body image, accepting yourself. then on the other hand, the love interest is fit and gorgeous and there are unkind descriptions of other people's appearance.

I can’t think of another novel in which the characters grew up in New York City, rather than moving there as young adults to fulfill their dreams a la Carrie Bradshaw, and Weiner’s descriptions are immersive. Each Sunday, when Daphne was a girl, she and her father would find a new restaurant in the city that would challenge their palates. Daphne’s and Drue’s families are Jewish, Darshini is Indian, there are LGBTQ characters, and a Laotian clothing designer. The diversity is natural, never screaming that the novel is “Woke,” but instead letting the characters reflect the heterogeneity of a city with almost nineteen million residents.

Thank goodness for Weiner, I learned about social media “influencers”. For me, Weiner’s books are escape. I need not have to keep track of numerous characters. Her characters almost seem to be cookie cutter stereotypes. And its no different in this book, part romance, part mean girl, part mystery.
