Geralt is a witcher.

Yet he is no ordinary killer-for-hire.
His sole purpose: to destroy the monsters that plague the world.

But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good. . . and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.

A unique, fresh take on an over-saturated fantasy genre. This book is well written, witty, smart, and unique. It might help to have played the games beforehand as I feel doing so aided me despite these books being written first. In any case, I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to reading the others.

On a small note, I found that it included a few humorous parallels and references to popular fairy tales such as Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella etc that added some nice flavor.

I really love this author and the characters he created. Geralt of Rivia, Dandelion and Yennefer. This collection has the origin of Geralt and Yennefer's tumultuous relationship and more fun stories with Dandelion.

Amazingly "fresh" material, given that it was written back in the early 90s. Sapkowski's eastern-bloc take on European fairy tale tradition is as invigorating as it is unsettling. And full marks to the translator, who has achieved an idiomatic and easy to read English version for a mass audience. Can't wait to read the next in the series!
