Dr. Shiv Chopras name has become synonymous with food safety. To protect the integrity of our food, he has waged many battles against a succession of Canadian Prime Ministers and federal ministries of health. He refused to approve various harmful drugs to be used in meat and milk production. He defied governmental gag orders, spoke publicly to the media, and testified at many Senate and parliamentary committees. Time and again the courts supported Dr. Chopra and ruled against government attempts to silence him. Also, time and again the government allowed dangerous drugs, agricultural practices, and carcinogenic pesticides to enter the food supply. Here is the full account of how government corruption endangers the food supply and how Dr. Chopra and his colleagues continue to speak the truth. Most importantly, this book contains a blueprint for the establishment of food safety and security throughout the world.

I talked to someone who worked in Health Canada and worked with someone who worked in Chopra's department. Her feeling, as a civil servant, was that he was an opportunist. [Mind you, she felt that GMOs were not demonstrably different so Health Canada had to approve them]. I don't see it; I see someone who was trying to protect the Health of Canadians. Maybe there is more to this story than Chopra provides, so more research needs to be done. I do wonder about the "revolving door" with big pharma in the US government (as people move in and out of government form pharmaceutical companies) as well as the EPA. Could that be happening in Canada? To me, evidence suggest that senior managers were approving things that should not have been approved.
