(Lyrics excerpt) - "Hey, hey, we're the Monkees.... And people say we monkey around.... But we're too busy singing.... To put anybody down!" Long-long before The New Kids On The Block came onto the scene - And, yes, long before The Bay City Rollers were around - And, even before The Partridge Family - There was, of course, The Monkees. And, in the beginning (with The Monkees) - American, manufactured, assembly-line pop music was already well on its way to becoming a very lucrative business venture for its promoters (particularly for those who had great, big dollar-signs glistening in their eyes). Believe it, or not - At the absolute peak of their phenomenal popularity (1967), The Monkees' albums and singles actually outsold The Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined. And, to date, their records have sold over 75 million copies, worldwide. This Monkees' "Greatest Hits" CD contains 20 tracks in all which were recorded by the boys between the years of 1966-1970. Many of these tunes were composed by the song-writing duo of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. *Note* - In 2012, Davy Jones (singer for The Monkees) died (at the age of 66) from a heart attack. The 3 remaining Monkees (Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, and Michael Nesmith) are all now in their early-70s.
