For any of my friends who are or who know widow(s}, I heartily reccommend the book "Saturday Night Widows" by Becky Aikman. I so wish that book had been around when I was struggling to "reinvent" myself after being widowed, not once but twice. Of all the books I read on the subject while preparing to become a bereavement counsellor, this one I think has the most to offer those widows of any age who don't want to remain stuck in their grief, who are ready and want to move forward, and who need the support and understanding of likeminded women who can nurture each other during the otherwise lonely journey of recovery. Well written with humour and compassion, this book chronicles the adventures of six NEW friends who are gathered together with only one common denominator: widowhood. We can see a little of ourselves in each of the women, feel their pain, and cheer for their courage and strength to seek and accept new opportunities for a happy life again.
