Nobody will call this a "must read", but Mimi Pond's graphic novel documenting her life and the characters she meets while working in an Oakland restaurant in the late 1970's/early 1980's is amusing and sweet and feels very natural and real. Though she calls the restaurant the "Imperial", the drawings and location scream to me that the restaurant in which she worked was/is actually Oakland's "Mama's Royal Cafe" which still stands today. Perhaps my personal memories of the place enhanced my enjoyment of the book. Still, I'd happily read more by this author.
