An extraordinary book by the man who found the legendary ship in 1985 and descended to the wreck in 1986. Ballard returned to the site some years ago, stunned by the amount of deterioration he saw since his first visit, and he expresses his concern throughout about the impact of human activity on the wreck, along with his discomfort about the actions of those who remove anything from the site. Aside from text about the sinking and discovery, the book features period photography and illustrations, along with some of the photography from Ballard's first expedition. It's the large scale photographs of Ballard's most recent expedition that really dominate the book. Recommended for anyone with an interest in the subject.
