When it happens by Susane Colasanti is a quick, light hearted read that will have you cheering and laughing out loud. The story revolves around Sarah and Toby, both seniors in High school. Sarah really wants this guy - Dave to ask her out and Toby wants Sarah to fall in love with him. I really liked the characters in this book, the were funny and it was interesting to read the girl's and well as the boy's take on falling in love. I also really liked the contrast between the two characters, Toby was a musician who mouths off to teachers and Sarah was a studious girl who is determined to get into the university of her dreams. I know this set up is a bit generic, but it works for me every time. I also really liked how both Sarah and Toby were looking for "the one" as opposed to just looking for a girlfriend/boyfriend in high school. Their conversations were extremely deep and I wondered if people even have conversations like this in real life. I guess that was just to prove that they were soul mates. The title says When it Happens, like love is just supposed to knock on your door and you say "Oh well, I see it's time to fall in love now." I always thought that love was supposed to be something gradual, Sarah and Toby themselves take a long time to like each other. I always thought the title should be "Something real" as that came up often in the book, the idea of finding someone real, not just finding someone to make out with. Overall, this was a great read and it brushed on other topics as well, the book wasn't solely on dating. I recommend this book to people 12 and older.
