This book has it all: humor, adventure, and some sadness. The story of a girl from the mythical kingdom of Sheba on a grand adventure to save her kingdom from Solomon and his magicians, it also contains another character: the genie Bartimaeus. Like the trilogy written before (The Amulet of Samarkand, The Golem’s Eye, and Ptolemy’s Gate), this is Bartimaeus in all his glory and with his usual wit. This book was wonderful for purely the fact that it is another book with Bartimaeus, and shows an early part of his career, even before he met Ptolemy. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read the Bartimaeus trilogy, and to anyone in middle or high school. However, I do think the trilogy should be read before this prequel.
